The February membership meeting of the Community Forum for Economics
Development will be held on Tuesday, February 17th, at 7 PM at the
Charles Black Center (3419 W. Washington Street).
1. Support for the Employee Free Choice Act, federal legislation that
– gives workers the choice to be represented by a union if a majority sign cards expressing their agreement,
– increases penalties for unfair labor practices, and
– provides for federal mediation if a union and employer cannot agree upon the terms of a first collective bargaining contract within ninety days.
2. Support for a local moratorium on foreclosures.
Our February Public Forum was attended by over seventy people, many who came seeking information that would save their own homes from foreclosure. The Inner City Task Force is proposing an action program that would support ending local foreclosures while federal and state relief is being developed.
3. An organizational proposal from the Coordinating Committee that would establish the Annual Spring Forum as the beginning of each year's membership drive.
The agenda also includes short updates on other projects including
– plans for this year's Urban Garden Market,
– participation in the TaxWise Coalition that provided income tax assistance for low-income taxpayers,
– preliminary plans for the Fourth Annual Community Forum on Economic Development to be held on Saturday April 18, at IU South Bend.
Please plan to attend, contribute to the discussion, and participate in these decisions.
